LONG VALLEY TO WELLMAN CIENEGA, SAN JACINTO MOUNTAINS
JULY 2008 PAGE ONE
Photographs by Michael Charters

This was the second of two hikes I did with Tom Chester to Wellman Cienega. The trail we took for this gallery begins at the top of the San Jacinto Aerial tramway 0.2 miles west of the tramway station and proceeds to Wellman Divide at 9,720' and then down to Wellman Cienega, a 7.2 mile round trip with 1,896' of elevation gain and loss. Another route is first a segment of the PCT north from Saddle Junction at the top of the Devils Slide Trail and then to a junction with the Wellman Cienega/Wellman Divide/San Jacinto Peak Trail. and finally along the Wellman Divide Trail up to Wellman Cienega. Wellman Cienega is the headwaters of Willow Creek in the Tahquitz Valley.and is located at elevations from 8,960 to 9,420 feet in the San Jacinto Mts. Tom Chester's plant list for the Wellman Cienega area is located here. An upside-down V next to the common name indicates a taxon that was new to me when I photographed it on this field trip.
