PACIFIC CREST TRAIL, CAJON TO SWARTHOUT CANYON ROAD FEBRUARY/MARCH 2014 PAGE ONE
Photographs by Michael Charters

I was hoping that the sections of the PCT from Cajon west toward Wrightwood might show evidence of many species that I did not observe when I did them in the fall last year, but unfortunately due to the extremely dry winter we had such was not the case. However due to the botanical expertise of my companions I was able to add a number of taxa to my list. This is a relatively dry section of the San Gabriels anyway and takes a good deal of rainfall to produce a good growth, so I will have to wait again for another season. To do this hike from the interstate at Cajon to where it crosses Swarthout Canyon Road, I joined Tom Chester and several other people on 3/20/14 after having hiked part of it back in February. This section of the PCT is about 4-1/2 miles in length. An asterisk next to the common name indicates a non-native taxon.
