PYGMY PLANTS PAGE ONE |
Pictures by Michael Charters |
I recently had the idea of putting together on one page pictures of all of the species that are collectively known as pygmy plants, or as I like to call them, penny plants, because it is only when they are photographed next to something like a penny that their true size is shown. Not all plants that have the word pygmy or dwarf as part of their common names are truly tiny, sometimes they were called that simply because they were smaller than already-named related species, but in the case of all the species displayed here, they are truly tiny plants, or at least have tiny flowers, and obviously it is their juxtaposition with a penny that is the primary common thread of this gallery. There are a few pictures shown here with a finger or a different coin for scale. I should point out that in the course of doing this gallery, I have discovered a surprising number of tiny plants that I unfortunately did not think at the time to photograph with a penny, so there are many other species that can be added as time goes on. |
