LAGUNA COAST WILDERNESS PARK
MAY 2010 PAGE ONE
Photographs by Michael Charters
A couple of weeks ago I ventured down to Orange County to see Pentachaeta aurea ssp. allenii at the Laguna Coast Wilderness Park. Bob Allen had gently reminded me recently that I didn't have his daisy in my website, so I wanted to rectify that. Having only a brief time, I walked with him out to where there was a convenient population, and I was suitably impressed. But the park is so lovely that I decided at least one return visit was required, and I went down again to hike from the Visitor Center to Camarillo Canyon Road to Serrano Ridge and finally down Little Sycamore Canyon back to the parking area, a distance of about 5 miles. This is an incredible loop trail and the park is awash in flowers right now. So all I can say is, thanks Bob, for showing me this little beauty and introducing me to a location I'm sure I will visit again and again. An upside down V next to the common name indicates a taxon that was new to me when I photographed it on this field trip, an asterisk indicates a non-native species, and a tilde (~) indicates an identification about which I am not certain. |
