COOPER CANYON, SAN GABRIEL MOUNTAINS
SEPTEMBER 2008 PAGE ONE
Photographs by Michael Charters
The Burkhart Trail goes two miles down beautiful Cooper Canyon from Buckhorn Campground to the top of Little Rock Creek. From there you can go on the 3-mile Rattlesnake Trail to Eagle's Roost on the Angeles Crest Highway, although that trail section is closed now for habitat protection of the mountain yellow-legged frog (Rana muscosa), or you can go in the other direction 3 miles to Cloudburst Summit, or you can continue on the Burkhart Trail to the Devil's Punchbowl. This is one of the prettiest little canyons in the San Gabriels and is a nice hike almost any time of the year. And as with the last few gallery pages, I have attempted to show what some of these species look like now in the non-blooming season. |
