BOB'S GAP

On 4/3/14 Tom Chester, Kate Harper, Walt Fidler, Adrienne Ballwey and I ended up our day's botanical excursion at Bob's Gap, about 4 miles south of Pearblossom Highway, northeast of the Devil's Punchbowl on the northern flank of the San Gabriel Mountains, and in a transition zone between mountain and desert. Since it was after 4 o'clock when we got to this locality and although we botanized until dusk, we had only had a taste of what the area had to offer, and so we returned on the following Monday, 4/7/13. Just as with the other area we visited along the Pearblossom Highway, this area was full of blooming species, which seems incredible after the three dry years we have suffered through. It also has limestone ridges which affords habitat for species which are adapted to those conditions. The symbol ^ next to the common name indicates a taxon that was new to me when I photographed it on this field trip. |
