IF YOU CANNOT FIND THE TAXA YOU ARE LOOKING FOR IN THE FAMILY NAMES OR LATIN NAMES INDICES, IT MAY BE THAT THE NAME HAS BEEN CHANGED. PLEASE CONSULT THE LIST OF CHANGES POSTED HERE.

This page provides access to four indices, Common Names, Family Names, Latin Names, and Pronunciation. You may click on any highlighted common or Latin name to view photographs with accompanying botanical information. The common name index includes names listed, for example, both as Ashyleaf buckwheat and as Buckwheat, Ashyleaf, in order to group related species together and to make it easier to use for those who may not be completely familiar with plant common names.  For information on author names, click here.  I am now in the process of incorporating the nomenclatural changes that will be reflected in the Jepson Manual 2nd edition. These changes are going to cause much difficulty and confusion for people seeking to find taxa whose names have been changed. If you are having difficulty finding some taxon whose specific, generic or family name may have changed, please consult a list I am compiling here. This is not intended to be a comprehensive list of all the changes in SoCal plant taxonomy, but merely for those taxa that are in my website.
